1-17 June | VILA REAL
On May 7 at 11.00, the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N), the Douro intermunicipal community and the Liga dos Amigos do Douro Património Mundial association will be in Vila Real to present the SOMOS DOURO Festival, which will take place from the 1st to the 17th June. The event will be held in the CCDR-N facilities (“Governo Civil” building).

Created as part of the celebrations of the Alto Douro Wine Region’s classification as a World Heritage site, this festival’s programme was curated by Anabela Mota Ribeiro, a journalist who was born in the region. With the purpose of involving the local residents, the festival includes a forum, talks, road maps, workshops and shows.

The SOMOS DOURO Festival is part of a wider initiative that aims at involving young people with the region, designed by Miguel Cadilhe, the mentor of the application to UNESCO. On the same year, a survey will be carried out to determine what motivates young people to remain in the region or to move to other places.

The assessment of the whole programme will be made on December 14 2018, the date when the World Heritage site classification will complete 17 years.
